General Medicine

General medicine and the general practitioner still have their place in modern society. From children to adult health, dermatological problems and anything else in between – that is the speciality of the general practitioner.

These days it is very expensive, firstly, to go see a specialist, secondly, they are usually fully booked  far in advance, and thirdly and most importantly – it is not always necessary to see one. Most people don’t know this. Go see a GP first  – this is after all the primary care physician.

Family doctors are typically the first point-of-contact for patients when they feel ill or experience a basic injury. During the initial visit, the GP will make a diagnosis of the patient’s condition using simple examination. They then decide how to treat the patient, do some simple investigations, blood tests or other special investigations and then decide whether to refer the patient to a specialist for more involved care. This decision is the patient’s decision – the doctor just aids in the decision making process.

The major benefit of seeing a family doctor who knows your medical history and thinks holistically is that all options always get considered. No ‘one-way’ thinking is allowed and you and the doctor then together decide what the best management for you at that specific time in your life will be.

For patients dealing with chronic or ongoing health issues, the general practitioner helps to manage ongoing care. Some patients need regular check-ups so the doctor can monitor their conditions for signs of improvement or decline. Others need reassessment on regular medications. Family doctors typically help with prescription maintenance. When necessary, the practitioner makes requests for blood tests or other lab work to support an initial diagnosis and to reassess the patient’s condition.

Aesthetics

Platelet-rich plasma PRP is a revolutionary technology, using ingredients of your own blood, which can help regenerate and rejuvenate your skin providing you with age-defying results – suitable for all skin types. Platelet-rich plasma or PRP is the part of the blood that is rich in growth and repairing factors (active proteins) essential for tissue regeneration and healing. These growth factors mimic the body’s natural wound healing process. During this process collagen, elastin and new blood vessels are increased, and damaged skin repaired and regenerated. Collagen is what gives skin a youthful appearance but as we age collagen production is reduced causing wrinkles and fine lines. To rejuvenate your skin these growth factors must be injected into your skin to create new collagen for vibrant skin that looks refreshed and glowing.

The procedure is usually an hour. Patients may have some subtle skin redness after the procedure. Recovery time is less than 24 hours. We recommend no excessive exercise for 24 hours after the procedure. Before your treatment it is important to disclose all medication including herbal medicine with your practitioner. Do not use any anti-inflammatory medication or topical creams for 2-3 days before your treatment. Medication that contains aspirin should be stopped 1 week before treatment. Always speak to your physician first before stopping any medication. We recommend you do not wash your face until the following morning. Your face wash may irritate your skin and it is best to keep the gel applied after the treatment on as long as possible. The serum applied after the procedure assists in the wound healing process and seals the injection sites. You may apply make-up 12 hours after treatment. Stay out of the sun directly after treatment

Research and our doctors’ results have shown that the best results are obtained if you have your second treatment 2-3 weeks after your initial treatment.

After the two initial treatments DIAMOND PRP is performed every four months (three times per year). If Botox and Fillers are part of your anti-aging rejuvenation regime DIAMOND PRP is recommended 1-2 weeks before or after your treatment.

DIAMOND PRP does not provide the immediate plumping short-term effect of neurotoxins and fillers but needs to be included as part of your yearly skin rejuvenation regime as it is the only procedure that can provide you with a more youthful overall glowing and vibrant complexion with a long-term benefit in improving your overall skin health and age defying results.

Other conditions that PRP can be used for to treat (sexual health):

  • Lichen sclerosis
  • Incontinence
  • Decreased vaginal or penile sensitivity (with difficulty to orgasm)
  • Small penis
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Peyronie’s disease

Contraindications to treatment:

  • Cancer
  • Infection
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Porphyria
